I think the Amazon style example would be neat if replacing an existing double main socket (as long as you can get the 12V).

If fitting a seperate twin USB socket like Pepé suggests, why not include a voltmeter as well

I wonder why both the units with double USB ports have attached covers when standard 240V units don't have a cover.
If you mean the double-socket 12V units like the one above, it's because they're designed to be waterproof. Or water-resistant, at least.

Fixed internal domestic sockets - either 230V or dropped-voltage like the USB ones - don't need to be IP rated.

So is there a cheaper non-waterproof version for where such a facility isn't necessary?

USB may also be more sensitive to dust, but you could cut them off for neatness.

Cheaper than seven quid?

Blimey Charlie - you spent tens of thousand of pounds on a motorhome and you can't afford seven quid?

Sheesh...

You don't need to cut anything - undo the back nut and slide the cover ring off.

Anyone want to buy a spare ring cover. £6.99 to a good home

The dust cover doubles up as a washer

Put a washer on instead.

Are you trying to make this as difficult as you possibly can, or what?

I am getting totally confused by this thread.
Are members saying that the 230v does not need a cover like this:-
back box.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
and the 12v does because it adds protection against water and dust?

If you buy a 230v unit you generally find it comes with one and the 12v does not. If you check the electrics in new vans this is also the case. I specifically asked Lowdhams to add covers to the back of the exposed wiring of the bedside 12v master switch and lights switches.

Wrong cover Colin, I was referring to the exterior covers that clip over the front and dangly on bits of rubber/plastic. It makes sense that they're to protect from damp but that's hardly relevant in most of an Eriba (hopefully).

Are we talking USB sockets that run off the mains supply? We have them in our kitchen at home and a couple have failed in the 18 months since they were fitted.

I want to fit one of those 12v dual USB sockets, and whilst I could wire it directly to the leisure battery with appropriate wiring and fuses, I'd prefer to install it in the wardrobe, if possible with a direct connection into the distribution box (the blue thing in the wardrobe of a 2014 430). Does anyone know which terminals I should/can use?

We charge phones and iPads in our Eriba by using a USB charger in the three pin socket at the front, as I'm sure most others do. However, when we are on small and basic campgrounds in the sticks (our favourites), we only have the leisure battery.

I’m considering adding some 12v usb sockets too and seems sensible to connect them to the blue csv unit in the cupboard rather than direct to a battery. I can’t find any info anywhere. Did you have any luck in the end?
