How do we stop it? What is it? Cannot stop it. Please for sanity sake help ux. The caravan has a new Banner battery AGM (Absorbent Glass Matt) 3x 3x It is a 592 01 12v 92 Ah This noise has gone on for days and days and we cannot stop it. We have been advised to charge the battery via the caravan's own charger and this is day 2 of that and no change has happened. Has anyone ever experienced such a thing? the caravan has a small solar panel. Could this possibly have anything to do with it? How do we know it is working/? Dafydd and Beryl Eriba Troll 555GT . We bought the caravan around two weeks ago from a large chain of camping cars and caravans dealer. They said that the battery was brand new, and so we left for home a round trip of around 700 kms, stopped the night on an aire, and finished the journey home. We had no trouble. When we arrived home, we used the motor mover to put the caravan in the barn with no trouble. A couple of days later, when we began to clean the caravan, the lights were very dim. We tried to move the caravan out of the barn and there was no power to drive the mover We towed the van out of the barn with the car, and carried on cleaning. It was during this time with my wife cleaning the inside and I was polishing the outside, that she remarked that there was a hum in the caravan. We tried to ignore this, but it got progressively louder and louder. We have had the power cable running continuously for 48 hours, and the whistling kettle like whistle is still with us. This is the situation we are in today. We are finding it impossible to find a mobile caravan specialist here, so, we are on our own. Any sort of help is appreciated. Dafydd and Beryl

From Googling it would appear that the 'WAECO Perfect Power PP550 Booster 1244' from which the noise might be emanating is an inverter which converts 12V power in the battery to 240V power. It would suggest that the previous owner of your van has had solar fitted to keep the battery charge topped up whilst off grid and in addition has wanted to use mains powered appliances whilst off grid too.

There can be issues with such a system as you really need a high a/h battery to have enough power to convert to 240V and it can cane the battery in doing so. The inverter may have a fault which is causing the noise. Probably the best thing to do is get it to a caravan dealership with a clued up electrician who can check out the system and explain how it works. They could also advise if it's a bodged DIY effort and safe to use.

So, is the van connected to the main 220V supply?
Can you tell where the noise is coming or from which piece of electrical equipment?

SDA, Daffyd has already advised they're on their own with no access to an engineer for a while :)

I've found this thread and part way down is a Youtube video with a sample of what is presumably the same sound. Sadly the conclusion is a touch vague for our purposes.

The inverter takes a lot of current so should have its own fuse and isolator: turn the isolator off to disconnevt it from the battery and this will stop the noise
