Replacement of front high level positional lights - query

The front high level position lights on my '04 540 have both developed terminal rot of the bottom bulb contacts.

It does not seem possible to source direct replacements - original is Hella 7R0131417 80 mm high whereas new ones are all 90 mm

Fitting the 90 mm ones will require drilling the van - not entirely sure what's behind there so just wondering if anyone has done this and any advice or info please?

I cannot see a problem as I would expect the fitting is attached to the skin of the van and not any internal framework. All I would be worried about is the wiring and getting some gunge into the old and new screw holes.
Do the new lights have a weep hole at the bottom?

Anything is possible.

All you have to do is hope that the right person reads this thread.

And that person is me!

I've got a pair of these.

Do you want them?

I was going to suggest contacting you, Pete, as didn't you replace your lights with more modern-looking alternatives some years ago?

I seem to remember them looking very smart.

You're a nice person, you are. A nice person and no mistake.

And you're quite right, as is occasionally the case.

I was going to suggest that Robin might look up the Jokon versions that I put on instead of the standard Hellas (they were a straight replacement) when I remembered that I'd kept the old ones.
