TV socket

Hello again,
We are now in possession of our new (to us) 2023 530 Urban Touring. It is lovely, really pleased.

Our van was factory built with the external awning TV/12v & 240V socket - which includes TV pre wiring inside (according to Hymers literature).

Does anyone know where(inside the van) I will find the TV aerial pre wiring?

Haven't been able to locate anything yet. As a last resort I will remove the metal casing off the back of the socket & attempt to trace the cables from there - but hopefully someone will point me in the right direction.

Thanks again

Andrew

I believe your socket is on the side of the wardrobe, if you lift the plywood hatch in the bottom of the wardrobe then you should get a guide on where the co-axial is being fed from.
I chose to fit my own and drilled a hole inside the top right hand back corner of the electric hook up socket. I fed a coaxial through this and attached a cable tie around the cable each side so it could not be pulled out of place. Once inside I put a splitter and then ran one cable to the wardrobe side and another to under the bed.

My 2016 Troll 540 has the pre-installed TV socket and 240V socket in a combined outlet on the awning side. The TV control switch and connector (plus 12v "cigarette lighter" outlet) is on the side of the wardrobe facing the rear of the caravan. The wiring from the satellite/aerial connector on the side of the 'van runs up "inside" the frame/insulation of the van and comes out from the insulation at the top of the wardrobe (inside), routing from there to (in our case) a Visionplus box mounted inside behind the tv output socket. That box has three potential "outs", just one is wired, this going to the socket on the side of the wardrobe. More recent Eribas may be different, though? Mine was originally supplied by Automotive Leisure, now Leisure First, then the main importer into the UK. I expect the aerial wiring was put in at the factory? And the Visionplus box added in the UK? I don't need to use an aerial, so I haven't tested it. There's no sign of an aerial cable coming out of the back of the awning-side box under the bed, but the cable may be routed internally?

Looking at the official manual included with our Troll, UK versions are different - ours certainly doesn't have a combined 220V/12V and aerial outlet in the awning side of the caravan as shown in the manual - just a single three pin UK 240V socket, plus a separate satellite/TV aerial connection point. There seems to be no information with my Troll on the UK setup.

I'm sure someone else on the forum will have better information on this...

Cheers, Simon

Thanks Simon,

Your pictures/setup is really helpful.

Being a 2023 model, we do have the combined external socket 240v/12v/TV & Sat, the rear of this fitting is protected by a fixed metal box. I suspect your vision plus system was a dealer fit accessory. It would also need an external aerial or sat dish signal (to amplify & distribute).

I don't think the 'factory' TV pre wiring includes any sort of aerial or signal amplification - I expect its just coaxial antenna cable?

I have checked that the power sockets 12v & 240v are live & working.

In the new option lists, it is possible to specify two choices of Media pack - when fitted, these provide TV, DAB Radio, Bluetooth, amplifier and a speaker. In this instance there is an external aerial fitted on the fixed roof at the rear of the Eriba - perhaps my cabling comes out there somewhere.
I'll have a look this weekend & take pictures of what I find.

Regards
Andrew

I agree about the coax antenna cable and the likelihood that the signal box was installed by the dealer.. The cable run is almost certainly just plain cable, because it's easier to install during the build - and cheaper! At the wardrobe end it goes into the VisionPlus box, so it was definitely connected at some point (and, presumably working). There was a long extension coax cable in the front locker when I viewed the caravan, presumably used to go from the outside connection point....

Interesting that the owner's manual says we have a combined 240V/12V/coax fitting, when we don't! I'm pretty sure the 240V UK socket adaptation was done by the UK importer/dealer, not by the factory. certainly on pre 2010 french built Eribas, anyway.

Late to this thread but what Colin did is exactly what I did back in 2002. The flying coax lead is easy to pull out / push in. On the older style square power inlet external sockets that all I would advise is that you put a Dymo label on the cover flap to remind you to pull the cable out before plugging in the mains cable.

This is best done because space is tight and the coax connector can hinder/stop the mains CEE plug latching and securing flap cover from easily disengaging and allowing the mains plug/cable to be disconnected.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to update on what we found. On our 2023 Troll 530, when you select the external awning tv/230V/12V plug - you do not get any internal TV coax cabling. All that is present are 2 no. F type screw connectors. See the pictures.

I used one terminal as an output (for TV/Sat - outside) and the other as an input (external antenna). This was then cabled back to a vision plus amplifier/splitter (as Colin's), mounted in the wardrobe. The internal coaxial cabling gives us a c-line socket on the side of the wardrobe and an additional point at the front of the dinette.

It all seems to have come together reasonably tidy & OEM appearance.

Here are the pictures of the connectors on the back of the awning socket

Hi Im only just reading your post. do you have media pack 1 or media pack 2 fitted?
we have a 2023 Troll with media pack 2. This includes a really nice Garmin Fusion RA770 marine grade radio and speaker, with all the appropriate coax cabling and DAB modules that go to the roof mounted ariel most joints in the system use Fakra connectors.

In addition there is also coax ariel wiring for both sky and terrestrial that is accessible in both the external awning socket and through fly leads that exit in the left hand side of the front scuttle/shelf just above the Radio by the front window. The terrestrial side of this goes to the roof aerial via a tv/DAB splitter that requires a 5v phantom supply from the TV.

The supplied 22" tv didn't seem to work and took quite a bit of tracing of the coax cables to find out why. I imagine it was all factory fit by Hymer but not sure if the supplier messed around with it as a couple of the Fakra connectors weren't connect to the coax outlets in the awning outlet eg F type connectors,

Hello Miniman,
Thanks for your response - I have sorted mine out now. My van did not include either of the media packs - just the external awning multi socket.
I am interested to find out where your external aerial is located, and what product they are using.
Thanks
Andrew

Well then I finally find out what the big lump I'm missing is, the Garmin Fusion RA770. My Feeling came with a partial fitting of bits. I had the aerial, speakers, a big bunch of wires and a cut out panel in one of the top cupboards. I blanked it off, but picked up TV and power feeds for my own installation. The dealer had no idea of what was missing and I could not find anything on the Hymer/Eriba websites back in June of 2023.
This is what I installed and it works fine, giving me mains or 12v options.

Hi Colin,
I’m on a ferry at the moment but when I return home, I’ll post you some pics of the Garmin radio you’re missing. It was part of media pack 1 on the Eriba troll. I could see someone removing it they cost about £690 plus another £100 for the DAB module and about £100 for the dual one piece speaker. It’s well specked and connects to Bluetooth on your phone etc. maybe the previous owner fancied it in their new set up 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Andrew,
I’ll take a couple of photos and post you some info of how the aerials connected to a dab and split tv modules. Along with some component info tomorrow.. 👍

Thanks Ian, my Feeling was a new one, a 2022/23 spec. The fitting and extras on these was/is different to the Tourings range. The supplying dealer Wandahome did not have an Eriba franchise for very long and did not know what they were doing when specifying orders, so so it was a bit of a miss-match, some good bits and some bits strangely omitted. At the end of the day I've got a set-up that now works. I suppose the only thing I'm missing is the use of the nice stereo speakers, but I can blue-tooth or aux-in music to my dab radio. I think if I decided to get the "full factory set-up" I'd get lynched.
