Drive Away Awning?

I have a Kampa Airpro 340 that works very well on my Triton 430. Unfortunately, I have contracted an ongoing back issue that is exacerbated by getting the Airpro onto the awning strip on set up. Even with both of us involved, it is literally proving to be a right pain. It is a shame because I really like the Airpro.

I am wondering if getting a "drive away" awning might work better? Looking online at various models, by nature, they all stand independent of the connected vehicle. I am assuming that the "tunnel" connection they would have to my Triton would be much easier to connect/disconnect. This being an intrinsic part of their "driveaway" capability. I think such an awning would not look as good but might be more practical for me.

I would be grateful to know of anyone's experience of these and of any other pros and cons.

Have you considered a lightweight awning such as

Hi Rocker thanks - that is certainly the sort of thing I had in mind and it seems a very good price. I have found it on the Go Outdoors website (£450) and that gives dimensions. The 260cm width of the awning connection to the van might be an issue. Without going to my Triton (at the storage yard) I suspect that would run from just beyond the door to about mid way through the rear side window - so not ideal. I guess the connecting part needs to be a minimum of 300cm wide to clear the door and rear window. Plus, it looks like I would still have to bear weight of awning.

Ideally, I would want one that can be erected independent of the Eriba and then attached to it. This seems to be achieved by having an enclosed "tunnel" between the awning and the Eriba. This tunnel must be easy to connect and disconnect in order for the awning to be driveaway.

There seem to be lots like this about. It would be great if someone can say they have one and that it is indeed easy to connect to an Eriba and very forgiving on the back.

Wow, I'm suddenly starting to feel and sound very old!

This might help:- Vango Siesta Review [Elwood is the same but in blue]
You should be able to pick one up for around £200. With 5 Eribas over 20 years and about 10 awnings I have found sellers often expect o get far more for 2nd hand awnings than they are worth. They usually sell for between 1/3rd and 1/2 new price, even in excellent condition.

Thanks Colin that was a very interesting read and the photos really help. This is the sort of purchase that I would ideally want to "feel" and see "in the flesh". Seeing it on another Triton and with some "real world" experience really helps.
